John Klebba, president and chairman of the board of Legends Bank, Linn, recently was elected to the board of directors of the American Bankers Association.

The association provides educational benefits and programs for its members, represents the industry in Washington and speaks on behalf of the industry in the press.

ABA’s board is the association’s governing body between annual conventions and is made up of CEOs from banks of all sizes.

The association represents banks of all sizes and charters and is the voice for the nation’s $14 trillion banking industry and its 2 million employees.

“I am honored to be representing our bank, our region and our industry,” said Klebba. “Though our competitive situations are different and our local economics vary, there are core issues that concern all bankers and all communities.”

Klebba is the third generation of his family to head Legends Bank, which was founded 100 years ago as the Rich Fountain Bank.

He joined the bank in 1991 after practicing corporate and banking law in Kansas City as a partner with the firm of Lewis Rice and Fingersh.

He has a long history of involvement with both the Missouri Bankers Association, including serving as its chairman in 2010-11, and the ABA, where he has served on the Community Bankers Council, the Membership Council, the Administrative Committee of the Government Relations Council and as a board member of ABA Card Solutions, Inc.

In addition, Klebba serves on a number of local, regional and statewide boards and committees of various charitable and educational organizations, including as president of the Board of Regents of Linn State Technical College.

He is a regular speaker on a variety of banking and legal issues and has testified before a congressional committee on pending legislation.

Klebba holds a BSBA degree from Drake University and both a Master of Business Administration and a Juris Doctor from the University of Notre Dame. He is a member of the Missouri Bar.
