As part of its program to highlight area businesses and their contribution to the community, the Pacific Area Chamber of Commerce named Bank Star the October business of the month.

The bank, located at 1999 W. Osage, was founded in 1975 as a local Pacific bank serving the communities of Pacific, Eureka, Washington and Gray Summit, and currently has 20 full-time employees.

In addition to the jobs it provides, Bank Star has played a huge role in the everyday lives of many Pacific area residents, according to Tim Baker, Chamber president.

“The business of the month program was designed to allow local businesses to shine and Bank Star is a prime example of a business with impact on the local community,” he said.

Bank Star has been a staunch supporter of the Tri-County Senior Center by helping to fund and participate in the center’s many programs. Pat Dubuque, Bank Star loan processor, serves as senior center treasurer.

The bank participates in Project Graduation, helping to fund a safe graduation party for Pacific High School seniors.

Bank Star also supports the Buddy Back Pack program for needy schoolchildren, United Way Power of the Purse fund-raising program, DECA high school marketing program, Franklin County Humane Society, Lions Club pancake breakfast, The Pacific Partnership Cruise Night car show, Chamber Pianos for a Purpose, Agape House Adopt a Family Christmas program.

Al Baldwin, Bank Star president, also serves on the Chamber executive board.

Bank Star was founded in 1975 as a newly chartered bank named American Security Bank. In 1980, Commerce Bank purchased the bank and changed the name to Commerce Bank of Pacific. At that time the state charter was changed to a national charter.

In 1987, Joseph C. Stewart Jr. purchased the bank from Commerce and changed the name to Pacific National Bank.

The bank moved into a new building in 1991 and in 1993 the bank charter was changed back to a state of Missouri charter. The name was changed once again to Security Pacific Bank.

In 2000, the latest (and current) name change came when it was christened Bank Star.

The bank completed a 3,200-square-foot addition in 2008, making the bank 9,200 square feet in total.

The hours at the Pacific location are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the drive-thru and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the lobby. Friday hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the drive-thru and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the lobby.

Bank Star is a subsidiary of the Des Peres-based BancStar Inc., a bank holding company with seven branches and more than $270 million in assets.

Bank Star branches are located in Pacific, Lake Ozark, Osage Beach, Fulton, New Bloomfield, Caruthersville, and Steele — all in Missouri.

Bank Star provides a full range of personal and business financial services, including checking, savings, certificates of deposit, safe deposit boxes, home equity loans, commercial loans, and consumer loans.

The bank also is a supporter of Shriners Hospital, Arthritis Foundation, Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, Children’s Hospital, Chadd, SFC William B. Wood Scholarship, American Stroke Association, Eagles Cancer Benefit and multiple donations to various Meramec Valley Schools fund-raisers.
