There is a new shop in Union that offers both outdoor supplies, and the newest smoking trend.

Outdoor Supplies and More sells outdoor items, including fishing gear and poles, as well as e-cigarettes and juices.

Store owner Mike Hoekel said he had been selling fishing items online, but wanted to open a “brick and mortar” store.

The store is located at 5 East Locust St. at the corner of Washington Avenue.

Hoekle explained that the e-cigarettes and supplies are sold to supplement the outdoor equipment sales.

“This is just the means to an end product,” he said. “This keeps the doors open until we can do more.”

Hoekel noted that the electronic cigarette trend is growing, and will continue to until the U.S. Food and Drug Administration places restrictions on the product.

By then he hopes to be selling more outdoor gear, including live bait, which is on the horizon.

The long-range plan includes the sale of ammo and hunting gear and eventually guns. He plans to move into a larger facility as the need arises.

“I am also hoping to do more fishing supplies,” he said.

A grand opening is planned for Saturday, May 10, 2014., Hoekel said.

E-Cigarettes

Hoekel said he quit smoking more than 15 years ago. But his daughter, Hillary, is a reformed smoker. By switching to e-cigarettes, she has cut her habit to less than one pack a month compared to several packs a week and is saving money compared to the $5-per-pack cigarettes she was smoking.

Hoekel said his shop carries a wide variety of e-cigarette hardware and 31 flavors of nicotine liquids with more flavors arriving monthly.

Some of the brand names of juices include Alice in Vapeland e-liquids, Mount Baker Vapors, Earths Bounty vapors, KangerTech and Innokin products.

People may visit the store’s Facebook Page for store hours and more information, or call 314-808-0115.
