Dr. James Mace, a local dentist, will compete in the Seattle Study Club World Team Treatment Planning Championships the week of Jan. 20-25, 2014.
The competition will be held in Scottsdale, Ariz., at the club’s annual symposium.
The Seattle Study Club is an organization of study clubs from around the world that focus on education, communication between interdisciplinary teams of doctors, and careful planning to ideally treat complicated dental cases.
Doctors participating in Seattle Study Clubs are dedicated to the advancement of team treatment planning and total case management as the ultimate tool for achieving the best outcomes in comprehensive care. They also have committed themselves to excellence in their profession and in the management of their practices.
Dr. Mace has been a member of the St. Louis chapter, The Gateway Study Club, since its inception in 2000 and serves as a restorative adviser for the club.
A total of 12 different teams from around the world will compete in the single-elimination event.
Teams will bring real-world dentistry straight from their practices to the stage and will engage each other and the audience, discussing and debating the best possible treatments for the cases presented.
This competition is the first of its kind in dentistry.
Over the course of the week, the teams will face off in a highly interactive treatment planning competition to vie for the championship.
Dentists and other dental professionals in attendance will pose questions to the teams and determine by vote which team is distinguished as the first-ever World Team Treatment Planning Champions.
Dr. Mace will be on a team with Dr. George Duello, a St. Louis periodontist and the director of the Gateway Study Club, and Dr. Peter Crump, a St. Louis orthodontist.
