Rothschild's Family Restaurant, located at 1026 E. Fifth St., recently added more local flavor to its menus.

Local artist Jim Peters has created three new portraits of Washington for the restaurant's menus.

The restaurant came out with four new menu covers last year - all designed by Peters.

All of the pieces feature Washington scenes.

"The scenes are not all about the buildings and businesses," Peters said.

Last year's covers included the exterior of the restaurant, the Missouri River bridge, city park and Lions Lake.

The new images include another river scene, a shot from the riverfront trail and the front yard of owner Julie Witte's parents house.

Julie Witte, nee Rothschild, and husband Jason hope the menus, with their Washington themes, show they want to stay true to their hometown.

"The local and out of town response has been great," Julie Witte said.

The Wittes bought the restaurant from Julie's parents in 2001.

For Peters, it just makes good business sense.

The restaurant is a town favorite, he said, noting its repetitive selection as best restaurant in The Missourian's Readers' Choice awards.

That means exposure for his work and beautiful scenes for the restaurant's menus, Jason Witte said.

Julie Witte's grandparents, Charles and Marge Rothschild, opened Rothschild's in 1963, the same year Peters and his wife Betty were married.

"I think we've stayed busy because of our loyal customers," Julie Witte said. "They know the difference from the hype of the big chains and the value of a hometown restaurant."

Jason Witte said the restaurant has received a lot of positive feedback relating to the menus.

To go along with the new covers, some new items grace the interior of the menu including a breakfast hoagie, pecan pancakes and waffles and an extended kids menu among other items.

Even with the new items, nothing on Rothschild's menu tops $10, Jason Witte said.

The restaurant also offers curbside pickup ordering. People can call 636-239-7112 to call in their order and pick it up by parking in designated spots in front of the business.

Rothschild's is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days per week.
