Free ECC Workshops For Nonprofit Directors, Staff

The morning session will focus on the importance of paying attention to the details related to event and organization management. The afternoon session is designed for executive directors and will begin at noon with a complimentary lunch. That roundtable session will conclude at 1:30 p.m.

Shannon Grus, executive director of the ECC Foundation, will lead the morning session scheduled from 9 a.m. until noon. Participants will learn that it doesn’t necessarily take a lot of time or money to make a big impact.

Grus has worked in the nonprofit sector for more than 20 years. She was program coordinator for the Franklin County Area United Way and also served as executive director of the Franklin County Humane Society. She spent several years as volunteer coordinator at Emmaus Homes and started her career as a membership development manager with the Girl Scout Council of Greater St. Louis.

Colleen Himmelberg will lead the executive director roundtable. Those attending will share their experiences as liaisons for the board, staff, volunteers and external stakeholders.

Himmelberg has more than 20 years of professional experience in the nonprofit sectors of higher education and health care. She has devoted time as a volunteer leader serving on community boards including the Washington Area Chamber of Commerce, Rotary and religious institutions.

She also brings volunteer knowledge from organizations such as United Way, Habitat for Humanity, humane society and a variety of other nonprofit organizations.

The February events are the first in a series of activities scheduled for people involved with nonprofit organizations.

ECC’s Center for Workforce Development, working with the Nonprofit Services Center of St. Louis, has put together a series of seminars, workshops and networking sessions for 2013 designed to enhance and strengthen nonprofit organizations throughout the college service region.

The March 5 seminar will focus on major giving through practical donor research. Financial management will be the topic in April.
