Joe Barker is a new member of the Washington Missourian news staff.
His first day was Dec. 16 as a general assignment reporter.
Barker, 28, was born and raised in Pacific and graduated from Pacific High School in 2004. He attended Truman State University in Kirksville, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications in 2008.
After graduation from Truman State, Barker headed to Hannibal, to work for the Hannibal Courier-Post newspaper. While at the Courier-Post, Barker served as a copy editor, sports reporter before eventually being named the sports editor in 2009.
In 2010 he accepted a position with AOL and moved to St. Peters. He was named the local editor of St. Peters Patch, a hyper-local news website devoted to the city of St. Peters. While at Patch, Barker covered anything and everything involving the city of St. Peters. He reported on crime, city government, sports and a variety of other topics.
Barker is single.
