Empac Group announced that Colleen Himmelberg of Washington will assume the role of executive director of strategic development and operations officer for Empac Employment Resources.

Empac Group is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3), that provides employment resources for individuals with disabilities in the Franklin County and surrounding areas.

Empac Group is the newly formed organization following the merger of Sheltered Workshops Inc. in Washington and Sheltered Industries of the Meramec Valley in Sullivan.

The two organizations merged Jan. 1, 2013, as Empac Industrial Resources, under the umbrella of Empac Group.

In addition to the merger and formation of Empac Industrial Resources, the Empac Employment Resources division was created and serves as the organization’s arm for integrated community employment for individuals with disabilities.

Himmelberg worked as a consultant and served as project lead for the merger and has been involved in numerous other projects for the organization over the past three years. Her most recent contribution to the organization was to achieve CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) certification for the Employment Resources division.

“This is an exciting time for us as we continue to develop our organization and expand capacity for employment services for our clients,” said Eric Giebler, CEO of Empac Group. “Colleen has a true visionary and entrepreneurial spirit as well as a heart for our mission which is always first and foremost. She brings a great deal of experience and expertise to the table and that will lead to expanded vocational opportunities for the Franklin County citizens with disabilities.”

As operations officer for Empac Employment Resources, Himmelberg will be charged with the full development of the division, creating a full spectrum of employment services and opportunities.

In addition, she will provide leadership to Empac Group in strategic planning and implementation, board development, professional leadership development, public relations and advocacy.

“We have already made great strides under our new organizational structure and I am thrilled that Colleen has accepted this position and will be working in lock step with the executive leadership of our organization to continue to compel us toward our vision,” said Bob Koch, COO and former director of the Washington location.

“We have lots of plans and goals and together, we will make even more of an impact for Franklin County.”
