The Competitive Edge is now open in its new 18,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility, complete with a full-sized basketball court and turf training area.

The new location is 967 Competitive Drive, Union, off Highway 47. It is owned by Evan Brinker, who also is a personal trainer.

Officer manager Gretchen Black said the new facility is almost four times the size of the previous building. It is open 24 hours a day.

She said the gym offers top of the line exercise and cardio equipment, weight machines and a full weight room, as well as the basketball court that is always available for use.

“The size of the building makes us unique, and it includes a basketball court and it is open 24 hours a day,” said Black, “that has been a big selling factor.”

There also is a turf area near the front entrance of the gym that is used for training, speed and agility workouts, or as an open space for any type of workout.

“We specialize in athletic training, so it is important to have the space available to train athletes, she said.

Black noted that the there are personal trainers at the facility that can fit most schedules. There are three trainers and one trainer intern.

“We have personal training for individuals or groups,” she said. “We have a wide variety of hours people can train — we can almost start training the next day (after sign-up) because we have so many trainers.”

Once members join, they are issued a key FOB to gain entry into the gym.

The gym will feature other activities too, including fitness camps throughout the summer.

There are staffed hours during weekdays, but those wishing to join should call for an appointment .

“People really need to stop by and take a look at the facility,” Black said.
