Dr. H. John Visser recently was inducted April 3 into the J.J. Turner Society of Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio.

Dr. Visser graduated from that institution magna cum laude in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry.

The J.J. Turner Society was named in honor of Dr. J. Jesse Turner, Ph.D., professor of biology at Hiram College from 1904-1950.

The society meets annually to recognize achievements of life source graduates. It discusses current scientific research and welcomes graduating seniors who have majors or minors in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, biomedical humanities and neurosciences into the group.

Each year an alumnus is awarded the society’s highest honor in the sciences by being inducted into the society. Dr. Visser was this year’s recipient.

Hiram College also is known for former President James A. Garfield who was president in the 1850s.

Dr. Visser has practiced in the Washington area since 1982. He now has been joined by his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Jared John Visser and Dr. Shirley C. Visser.
