Two area students sponsored by Crawford Electric Cooperative have returned from a unique educational and leadership experience in the nation’s capital this summer.

Both will enter their senior year in high school this fall.

Jeremiah Cook of Cuba and Toni Henson of Owensville were Crawford Electric’s delegates on Missouri’s 50th annual Missouri Electric Youth tour to Washington, D.C. They were among the 87 high school juniors from across the state who participated in the tour June 14-20.

The seven-day tour provides an action-filled week for high school students, offering them opportunities to learn firsthand what it is like to be involved in politics, community service and today’s pressing issues.

Highlights included the young people visiting with representatives from their congressional districts and touring famous monuments, the Smithsonian Institution’s museums and Arlington National Cemetery. The group also took a sightseeing and dance cruise on the Potomac River one evening with delegates from other states.

Other events of the week included participating in the Electric Youth Day, during which a special program coordinated by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association brought together more than 1,600 Youth Tour delegates from across the United States.

Crawford Electric Cooperative is a member of Touchstone Energy, a national alliance of locally owned, community-minded electric co-ops with high standards of service. Crawford Electric serves more than 19,000 meters along more than 3,300 miles of distribution lines in Crawford, Franklin, Gasconade, Washington and Dent counties.
