U.S. Silica’s Pacific Plant will help make some Pacific families’ Christmas a little brighter.
The company recently loaded up a pickup truck with toys, games and clothing items and Kevin Pingleton, U.S. Silica’s purchasing manager and maintenance planner, and his family delivered it to the Pacific Adopt-A-Family organization.
The Adopt-A-Family organization was founded 22 years ago by Pacific residents Cleta Null and Bertha Stallman with the help of the Agape House.
Null has watched her vision grow to the present day to more than 500 families who will receive assistance with Christmas gift-giving and food items for Christmas dinner this year.
“I can’t tell you how badly we needed those toys,” Null said. “We sincerely appreciate this contribution and always welcome any help we can get. If (other) individuals or companies want to give time, money, toys or clothes, there is a tremendous need.”
City of Pacific Alderman Steve Myers learned that the charitable program had lost a major contributor when a manufacturing plant closed its doors several years ago.
In an effort to help restore that loss, Myers approached U.S. Silica’s Plant Manager Chris Rahn with the request that the company learn about the program and help.
“All it took was setting up a personal meeting between Cleta and Chris,” Myers said. “I knew that once Chris got the opportunity to witness Cleta’s giving and grateful spirit, he’d be hooked. Meeting someone like Cleta Null is like meeting Mrs. Santa. All she would need is a red suit and she would be the complete package.”
U.S. Silica’s Pacific plant mines whole-grain silica sand from the St. Peter formation and it is used to make flat glass, glass containers, chemical, foundry, and products used in the oil and gas industries.
The company’s employees are encouraged to volunteer their time and talents in community activities to facilitate a relationship of stewardship within the communities they call home.
