Rachel Covington is the new executive director for Mercy Health Foundation Washington.

“Mercy welcomes Rachel,” said Terri McLain, president of Mercy Hospital Washington. “She has an exceptional track record of fund raising. As a nonprofit, fund raising is the heart of our existence. It allows us to keep our promise to bring programs and services to those we serve. We look forward to seeing what she can do here.”

Covington is responsible for generating donations through comprehensive philanthropy programs. Such initiatives include donor acquisition, annual giving programs, special events, major gifts and capital campaigns, planned giving and donor prospecting.

“Mercy is a great place for patients and great place for co-workers. I’m especially grateful to be part of Mercy in this region,” said Covington. “There’s a great need for health services in the communities we serve here and generous community leaders who are supportive of our healing mission. I’m anxious to work with everyone to see where we can make a difference.”

The foundation office also oversees Auxiliary activities in cooperation with the Auxiliary Board and hospital administration. The Auxiliary is expanding its membership and looking for new ways to fund raise. Covington said she looks forward to continuing those initiatives.

Covington comes to Mercy with over 20 years of experience in nonprofit and health care fund raising. She served as division president at the National Kidney Foundation of the Greater St. Louis Area. There, she was responsible for implementing a strategic direction while overseeing all operations including fiscal responsibilities, staffing, programs and funding sources in Missouri, western Illinois and Kansas.

Prior to that position, Covington was the executive director for SSM St. Clare Health Center’s Foundation in St. Louis, where she developed and initiated successful marketing strategies that promoted the Foundation’s programs and events and increased board involvement. She also was instrumental in raising $2.5 million for SSM St. Louis’ first capital campaign.
