For the past 28 years, Washington resident Angie Pritchard has been working in interior design, remodeling bathrooms and kitchens, creating special finishes, refurbishing and giving new life to furniture and other items.
And for the past several years, she has been stockpiling some of those items in hopes of one day owning her own retail store.
That day came Friday when Pritchard, with the help of her niece Morgan Dillon, opened The Painted Home, located at 219 Main St. in Downtown Washington.
“I have been dreaming about this for years,” she said, sitting in a Paris-inspired entryway.
Pritchard said retail is in her family’s blood, as her mom owned Linen and Lace in Washington for years. Her sister, Tina, owned Amelia’s in Downtown Washington.
The 2,100 square-foot showroom is packed with inspirational decorating ideas and merchandise to make the look possible in your own home.
In addition to her own items, Pritchard has vendor booths with antiques, photography and watercolor. Other booths are still available.
Pritchard offers new home decor, vintage pieces and refinished furniture.
With her own store, Pritchard said she’s looking forward to having fun, working with people and “finding treasures” to stock her shop.
Pritchard carries the Van Gogh chalk paint line and plans to host on-site workshops and paint parties for those who prefer to DIY (do it yourself). The paint is all natural, she noted, and perfect for beginners.
The first workshop is scheduled for Saturday, July 27, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Participants will learn to work with the chalk paint line, including how to use the tools and how to distress and layer colors.
Participants will paint samples. In the future, Pritchard will have “paint your own piece” parties.
Starting out, classes will be held twice each month. Other classes will be added in the future.
Pritchard still plans to run her interior design business “Expressions in Paint” from the Main Street location. She will continue to offer custom kitchen and baths, upholstry, window treatments, faux finishing and other custom work as requested.
The Painted Home is not yet online, but people can see Pritchard’s work by visiting expressionspd.blogspot.com.
A grand opening celebration will be held the weekend of July 20 during normal business hours.
Hours at the store will be Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The shop will be open by chance or appointments on Sundays and closed on Mondays.
