The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a break-in and burglary at the St. Clair VFW Hall early Wednesday.
Lt. Steve Elliott told The Missourian that surveillance video shows that two men used pry bars to break open the front door of the local VFW, 1087 North Service Road West. About $200 in cash was taken.
Elliott said deputies responded to an alarm call at the VFW at about 5 a.m. on Wednesday. When authorities arrived, they found the front door to the hall open.
They secured the building.
The surveillance video showed one man wearing a nylon mask over his face. He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.
The other man had a ski mask over his face. He also was wearing a dark-colored hoodie and blue jeans. His tennis shoes were black, possibly Adidas, with white soles.
“Both of their faces were obscured,” Elliott said.
Elliott said both men appeared to be of medium build and between 5-foot-9 and 6-foot-1 in height.
Video also showed the suspects arriving in a dark-colored mid-1990s Ford or Dodge minivan with no license plates. The van arrived from the west and left toward the east.
At this time, deputies are checking leads and continuing their investigation.
