Local Girl Scouts now have a storefront where they can sell cookies in Union.
The store opened Friday, Feb. 28, and is located at 118 S. Oak Street, next to Philly’s Pizza. It will be open every day through March 15.
Multiple Union area troops from Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri troops will take over the location to sell all eight Girl Scout Cookie varieties – Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Do-si-dos, Trefoils, Savannah Smiles, Dulce de Leches and Thank U Berry Munches – for $4 per box.
The cookie store hours will be Monday through Friday from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Proceeds from the cookie program stay within the community to benefit local girls.
Troops use the money for everything from field trips to community service projects. With these funds, Girl Scouts can also deliver programs for girls, provide training for adult volunteers and maintain our three local Girl Scout camps.
The cookie program is also the most comprehensive money management program for girls.
Knowing how to make, manage, spend, save and invest money is a skill that extends far beyond the cookie season. Many successful women leaders report that their first entrepreneurial experience came from selling Girl Scout Cookies.
To locate other area cookie booths people may visit www.girlscoutsem.org/cookielocator. Customers may also donate cookies to the USO of Missouri via the Troop to Troop Program.
In 2013, customers donated more than 36,000 boxes of cookies to military personnel.
