Tracks in the snow led to the arrest of several suspects and the recovery of numerous stolen items this week, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The case began shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday when deputies were dispatched to investigate a report of a home burglary in the 800 block of West Springfield Road west of St. Clair. A burglary was reported at the same home around the end of January.

When they arrived, the homeowner reported finding his microwave oven near a wood line along his property. Deputies then followed tracks in the snow that led to Springfield Road. They then drove along the road until they found similar tracks that led to a residence.

At the home, they questioned one man, who said he did not live there, then contacted a man and a woman inside, according to reports.

Deputies arrested three men, ages 44, 50 and 58, in the home and recovered numerous items that were identified as stolen property, the sheriff’s office said.

The woman in the house also was detained for questioning.

The names of the suspects were not released pending a decision on issuing felony charges, the sheriff’s office said.
