The Union Police Department recently hosted its Kops and Kids food drive to benefit the Union Food Pantry.

From Oct. 20 through Nov. 17, students in the Union R-XI School District collected more than 5,000 food items and over $3,000 in cash.

“Every school in the Union School District participated and we had an overwhelming show of support,” said Union SRO Rick Neace.

The school with the most donations was Clark Vitt Elementary. The second-place school was Central Elementary and third-place was Union Middle School.

“What a great opportunity to show the kindness and caring the students and families have for their community,” Neace said.

Neace thanked Meramec Area Chaplaincy Coalition and Eagle Safety, which helped transport the food items.
