Help little ones grow familiar with common items found in various rooms of a home using “House: First Words Board Books: 5 Books Inside,” illustrated by Michael Slack. This ingenious book has been chosen as the October Baby Buzz Pick.
Each month, The Missourian selects a quality, hardcover book for children birth to age 5. A review of the book appears in the second weekend issue of the newspaper. The reviews are written by Maria Brady-Smith, former parent educator with the Washington School District, and Chris Stuckenschneider, book editor at The Missourian. The following review was written by Brady-Smith.
This month’s Baby Buzz Book is so unique and fun that children and parents alike will enjoy it. The board book actually consists of five mini-board books enclosed in a case that opens into a house.
Each chubby little book includes pictures of familiar items from a different room, including a living room, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and garage. The simple illustrations are perfect for toddlers who are learning to label objects in their environment.
The boxed set also is great for preschoolers, who can fit the books, like a puzzle, back into the case and use the books and case for creative pretend play.
Built on such a clever concept, these sturdy little books are sure to provide lots of educational opportunities and fun for the entire family.
Baby Buzz Books can be purchased at Neighborhood Reads in Downtown Washington.
