Gerald Police spotted a mountain lion Tuesday following a report of a sighting by a motorist.
Chief Steve Goodwin said he and another officer saw the mountain lion at 5:40 a.m. in a creek bed in the area of Highway Y.
Officers went to look for the animal after a motorist reported that the mountain lion stopped briefly in front of his vehicle while on Highway Y at Wheeler Road.
Goodwin said he notified the Missouri Department of Conservation. He was told that there have not been mountain lions sighted in Franklin County, but there had been reports of the animals in Gasconade County two to three years ago.
Anyone who spots the animal is asked to contact the Missouri Department of Conservation at 573-815-7901.
