The Four Rivers Genealogical Society will teach a beginning genealogy course as part of the continuing education of East Central College in Union.

This six-session course will guide the beginner in confidently starting their own family history research while also giving the more experienced genealogist good tips for finding that “lost ancestor.”

Topics will include popular genealogy software databases and charts, figuring out the census, finding where your ancestors’ farm was located, Internet and non-Internet sources, and how to work on “brick walls.”

The course will be taught by experienced genealogists who are members of the Four Rivers Genealogical Society which has been in existence for over 25 years here in Franklin County.

The course fee is payable to ECC upon registration.

There will be six evening sessions, 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. each Thursday beginning Sept. 19 and running through Oct. 24. Classes will be held at the ECC Training Center building on the south end of the ECC campus.

Look for the ECC community education class listings coming to your mailbox for further information on the registration form and where to send it. You must register and pay through the ECC Continuing Education department.

There are no prerequisites for this class, just a desire to learn more about how to go about digging up your roots.
