Grace United Methodist Church, 952 N. Church St., Sullivan, will host three all-you-can-eat barbecues in April, May and June to raise funds for its backpack program that sends backpacks filled with food home with schoolchildren on Friday afternoons so they have meals on weekends when there is no school.

The children return the empty backpacks to school each Monday and take them home filled again each Friday.

The program, which began helping about 50 schoolchildren, now provides backpacks filled with food to about 125 children each week in Sullivan schools. The program also has been replicated in other neighboring communities.

In Sullivan, the backpack program is sponsored by Grace United Methodist Church and supported by numerous individuals and businesses in the community.

The fund-raising barbecues will be held Friday, April 12; Friday, May 3; and Friday, June 7. Times for each event are 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The menu will include pork steak, chicken breast, brats, fish, potato salad, slaw, baked beans, green beans, dessert and drinks. Carry outs will be available.

Grace United Methodist Church is located on Highway AF just off the north service road behind the West Bros. dealership.

For more information, people can call 573-468-6010 between 8 a.m. and noon.
