Ann Hazelwood, an AQS (American Quilter’s Society) certified quilt appraiser and former president of the National Quilt Museum, will be at Neighborhood Reads to give quilt appraisals by appointment Wednesday, Nov. 8.
Many quilts are family heirlooms and assets that may require a written appraisal for a fair settlement from an insurance company in case of theft, loss or damage. According to Hazelwood, other reasons for getting quilts appraised include providing proof of value when mailing a textile, and when entering a textile in competition, an appraisal may be required if the textile is over a certain value.
Hazelwood is the textile appraiser for Antiques Road Show in the St. Louis region. For almost 30 years, she owned the quilt store, Patches, in historic St. Charles.
She also is the author of dozens of books, including two fiction series. Every novel in the series has a quilt that connects to the story of mystery, romance and close friendships. The first book in her newest series, “Wine Country Quilts,” will be released in spring 2018.
A limited number of quilt appraisal appointments at the bookstore are available. To schedule an appointment, call 636-390-9673.
