The Missourian News Quiz has embarked on its fourth year.
A project of the Missourian In Education program, the weekly News Quiz connects local students with their community while teaching them important reading skills like comprehension, skimming, scanning and quoting accurately.
New questions are posted on the Missourian In Education page on www.emissourian.com each Monday based on news in The Missourian’s weekend edition. Students have until 5 p.m. on Friday to answer the questions to be eligible for the weekly prize.
Young readers can complete the current events quiz at school or at home and be eligible for the same prizes.
Thanks to sponsorship from Imo’s Pizza in Washington and Union and Sugarfire Smoke House in Washington, gift certificates to these restaurants will be the incentives for students.
To take the News Quiz, students visit the Missourian In Education webpage at www.emissourian.com beginning on Monday. The News Quiz link there provides a fill-in form.
There is no registration to complete for students to participate. At the bottom of the quiz, students provide a first name and last initial (or their full name) and grade, along with a parent’s or teacher’s email address.
Each week’s winner is selected at random from all students submitting correct answers. The Missourian announces the winner online with the answers to the next week’s News Quiz. A letter and the prize are mailed to the student at school.
The News Quiz is open to any school-aged student in The Missourian’s circulation area.
