St. Louis Cardinals fans of all ages will enjoy this weekend’s Saturday morning story time at Neighborhood Reads Bookstore in Downtown Washington. Author Ed Wheatley will share his new picture book, “Incredible Cardinals,” highlighting the wall of heroes in Busch Stadium’s left field.
The greatest Cardinals of all time are painted there, reminding everyone that dreams do come true. On this wall, Dizzy Dean still throws his flaming fastball. Lou Brock flashes his supersonic speed around the bases. Ozzie Smith puts on a show with his fielding magic.
In addition to reading the book and telling the players’ stories, Wheatley will share memorabilia of most of the players, including gloves and bats — allowing young readers to take a swing with a bat actually used by Stan Musial or Ozzie Smith.
Story time will begin at 10:30 a.m., and Wheatley will be at the bookstore until 12:30 p.m. signing books and sharing stories.
Wheatley also is the author of “St. Louis Browns: The Story of a Beloved Team.” Copies of this popular book and a companion DVD will be available as well.
Neighborhood Reads is located at 401 Lafayette St.
