St. Paul’s United Church of Christ at Marthasville will hold a “150 Years of Faith” celebration Sunday, Oct. 13, and invites the community to participate.

Established as the Marthasville German Evangelical Church in the midst of the Civil War, this church is still a beacon on the hill, welcoming large numbers of new residents as well as a number of descendants of the original founders.

Afternoon activities will feature a variety of old-fashioned games, musical entertainment, a historical slide show and refreshments. A time line highlighting important moments in St. Paul’s history and a mini-gallery of portraits of pastors who have served the church from the beginning can also be viewed.

Cathie Schoppenhorst will lead tours of the old cemetery.

People of all ages will enjoy hearing from Glenda Eichmeyer and her rescue dog. There will be fingerprinting available for children and ambulance and fire trucks on display.

Immediately after church at approximately noon, the Bluegill Buddies will perform bluegrass music using a variety of instruments.

From approximately 1 to 2 p.m. Kitty and Bob Heberle will sing and play traditional folk, gospel and bluegrass music. Bob plays guitar and bluegrass-style banjo. Kitty’s instruments include mountain dulcimer, Autoharp and banjo played claw hammer style.

Robin DeVore, a St. Paul’s member well known as a soloist in eastern Missouri, will sing songs of inspiration and old favorite hymns from approximately 2 to 2:30 p.m. She will be accompanied by Sally Berg Rohe.

Two other St. Paul’s members, Dennis and Vickie Price, will share their faith and spirit through a variety of music.
