Children who submitted posters in the Family Reading Night Dog Portrait Poster Contest can pick up their drawings from the Washington Middle School front office before Wednesday, March 19.

All of the posters were on display Friday night, March 7, for the event.

This year’s winner was Rayanne McDaris, a fifth-grade student at New Haven Elementary.

Lily the Weimaraner and owner Tara Prosser, stars of the newspaper serial story, “Lily’s Story,” and the newly released children’s book, “Lily: A True Story of Courage & the Joplin Tornado,” visited Rayanne’s school March 7, prior to Family Reading Night.

Other artists recognized on stage during the event as honorable mention were Avery Mades, kindergarten at Immanuel Lutheran School; Cecelia Heimos, fourth grade at Labadie Elementary; Alicia Cicchese, fifth grade at Labadie Elementary; and Molly Tinkley, fifth grade at Campbellton Elementary.
