Go Day for the annual Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri Cookie Program is this Saturday, Jan. 11. Area Girl Scouts will begin canvassing the area and knocking on doors Saturday morning asking residents to support their troop by buying boxes of their special cookies.

Little Brownie Bakers is the baker for the 2014 and 2015 Girl Scout Cookie Programs. Little Brownie has baked Girl Scout Cookies for more than 30 years.

There will be eight varieties of Girl Scout Cookies available: Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Do-si-dos, Trefoils, Savannah Smiles, Thank U Berry Munch and Dulce de Leche.

All cookies are sold at $4 per package. Proceeds from the cookie program stay within the community to benefit local girls.

Troops use the money for everything from field trips to community service projects. With these funds, Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri can also deliver programs for girls, provide training for adult volunteers and maintain our three local Girl Scout camps.

The Girl Scout Cookie Program is the largest girl-led enterprise in the country, engaging girls with five skills linked to leadership and financial literacy — goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics.

The cookie program is also the most comprehensive money management program for girls. Knowing how to make, manage, spend, save and invest money is a skill that extends far beyond the cookie season.

Many successful women leaders report that their first entrepreneurial experience came from selling Girl Scout Cookies.

There will be additional opportunities for customers to buy cookies. Initial orders will be taken through Feb. 2, with additional orders taken from Feb. 3 to March 16.

On Feb. 7 and 8, Girl Scout troops will be encouraged to participate in Gift of Caring, which gives customers the opportunity to purchase Girl Scout Cookies that will be donated either to the USO of Missouri, Inc. or another charitable organization of the troop’s choice.

You can provide “a taste of home” to U.S. military personnel by purchasing Girl Scout Cookies that are donated to the USO of Missouri. Thanks to the generosity of Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri customers, 36,540 packages of Girl Scout Cookies were donated to the USO in 2013.

Finally, cookie booths and cookie cupboards will open Feb. 26 and will take orders until March 16.

If you want to order Girl Scout Cookies, but do not know a Girl Scout, complete the (fillable) form, located on the Cookies page of the website www.girlscoutsem.org, and a troop leader will contact you.
