ALIVE (Alternatives to Living in Violent Environments) is holding its 10th annual cellphone drive now through June 1. Old cellphones, even if they are broken, can be refurbished. ALIVE also accept old bag phones as well. These phones are shipped to a company in Florida, where Verizon, through the HopeLine program, provides new cellphones to distribute to domestic violence victims.
Drop-off locations are as follows:
Washington — St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Washington library, St. Francis Borgia Church office, Presbyterian Church of Washington, Modern Auto, Law Office of Samantha Cerutti-Wacker and Washington Chamber of Commerce;
Union — Union Chamber of Commerce, Scenic Regional Library, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Purschke Oil & Tire, Verizon/Russell Cellular Store;
St. Clair — St. Clair United Methodist Church;
Pacific — Pacific United Methodist Church and Citizens Bank;
Sullivan — Sullivan Chamber of Commerce and Grace United Methodist Church.
Individuals donating phones need to be sure and remove all information and stem cards. Anyone wanting a tax donation acknowledgment for tax purposes should leave their name and address with the cellphone.
