A Field of Pinwheels

Kathy Hartmann, a family advocate from the Children’s Advocacy Center, is pictured in the lawn of the Franklin County Courthouse where blue pinwheels were placed in recognition of Child Abuse Awareness Month in April. Hartmann and others from local agencies placed the pinwheels in the courthouse lawn Monday morning.

A Franklin County Family Fun Day will be held Saturday, April 12, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Clair Elementary School, 895 Bardot St., St. Clair, in observance of April as child abuse prevention month.

This free event will include a number of family-friendly activities, including a bike rodeo with five skill tests from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., hosted by the St. Clair School District.

Zane’s Karate will give a demonstration at 11 a.m. Zumba by Gina Stephens will begin at 11:30 a.m. Michelle’s School of Dance will perform at noon, followed by St. Clair ROTC at 1 p.m.

Outback Ed and his crazy critters will be on hand, and emergency vehicles will be available for children to climb on and explore.

Local businesses and civic groups have donated concessions in an effort to raise more funds for awareness projects.

Each child will be offered one free shaved ice. Other concessions, including hotdogs, chips, soda and baked goods, will be available for purchase.

Then on Thursday, April 3, Orange Leaf frozen yogurt will donate 10 percent of the day’s proceeds to Family Fun Day.

Family Fun Day is sponsored by the Children’s Advocacy Center of East Central Missouri; CASA, Court-Appointed Special Advocates for Children, Franklin County; and Grace’s Place, Franklin County Crisis Nursery.
