The Missourian celebrated the 10th Anniversary of its Book Buzz youth literacy project with a birthday party for Newsbee on Sunday, Sept. 30, at the Washington Public Library.

The program recognized the individuals, organizations and businesses who have helped make “Ten Years — 10,000 Books” possible. Other special recognitions were given, including one to Sandy Lucy in appreciation to the Gary R. Lucy Gallery for carrying the Book Buzz Picks for a decade. Lucy, Mayor of Washington, read a special proclamation making Nov. 1 Book Buzz Family Literacy Day.

A video was shown featuring several authors who have been to Washington and a look back over the past decade of the project. Finishing Touch by Ginger created a festive refreshments that include bee cupcakes. Newsbee was on hand giving out hugs to readers of all ages.

Pictures and the video will be available here soon.

The Missourian also will be presenting a birthday gift to the library.
