Newborn cousins Mason Joseph Homer and Katalina Marie Pearson share more than just grandparents — they share a birthday.

Both were born this week on Monday, Sept. 23, just a few hours apart.

Mason, who was due Sept. 27, is the son of Sarah Lipe and Tim Homer, Sullivan; and Katalina, who was due Sept. 30, is the daughter of Sarah’s brother, Walter Pearson, and Jeannie Cochran, St. Clair.

Throughout the summer, the families joked how their babies could be born on the same day, but they never expected it to happen, said Pearson.

He and his fiancee arrived at the hospital around midnight Sept. 23 and then a few hours later received a text message saying that his sister was on her way to the hospital, too.

Lipe had been scheduled for a C-section delivery Sept. 27, but went into labor early.

Mason weighed 9 pounds, 11 ounces, and was 22 inches long. Katalina was 7 pounds, 7 ounces, and was 20 1/2 inches long.

Their rooms at the hospital were just across the hall from each other, said Pearson, which made it easy on family for visits.
