Emma Kate Downey, Concordia, formerly of the Marthasville/Washington area, and Daniel Jaroslav Safarik, Vandenberg Air Force Base, Lompoc, Calif., were united in marriage May 26, 2012, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Lompoc, Calif. The Rev. Joseph Byrd officiated at the ceremony.

Bride’s parents are Charlie and Sheila Downey, Concordia, formerly of the Marthasville/Washington area. Groom’s parents are the Rev. Andy and Johanna Safarik, Hyannis, Neb.

The bride was given in marriage by her father.

Serving as maid of honor was Laura Unerstall, Washington, bride’s sister. Bridesmaids were Jenna Kluesner, Ozark, bride’s future sister-in-law, Isabel Safarik and Margaret Safarik, both of Hyannis, Neb., groom’s sisters.

Best man was David Safarik, Hyannis, Neb., groom’s brother. Groomsmen were Sam Unerstall Ozark, bride’s brother-in-law, Kory Jackson, USAF Texas, Michael Hawes, USAF Alabama.

Usher was David Hu, Taiwan.

A luncheon reception was held at Bethany Lutheran Fellowship Hall.

The bride attended St. Paul Lutheran High School and will attend the University of Colorado pursuing a career in nursing.

The groom attended St. Paul Lutheran High School and is serving in the U.S. Air Force, space systems operations.

After a wedding trip to the Danish community of Solvang, Calif., the couple will be based at Buckley AFB, Aurora, Colo.
