Sponsors for the 22 Washington Town and Country Fair Queen candidates were randomly drawn Saturday night at the Washington Area Chamber of Commerce Banquet.

The banquet was held at the Washington KC Hall.

Area businesses and professionals submit their names to serve as a sponsor.

The queen contest is always held opening night of the Washington Fair. This year’s contest will be held Wednesday, Aug. 2, at 6:30 p.m. on the Main Stage.

Ashley Cox, 2016 Fair Queen, and Jill Poepsel, queen committee chair, helped draw the names.

The Fair queen sponsors are as follows:

Augusta Winery, Bank of Franklin County, Bank of Washington, Citizens Bank;

Eric Park and George Meyer LPL Financial, Hawthorne Inn, Hodges Badge;

Law Office of Mark Rudder LLC, Marquart’s Landing, Mercy, Montelle Winery;

Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt, Papa Murphy’s, The Competitive Edge, W&M Restaurants/Taco Bell;

Storm Guard Exterior Restoration, Color & Design Studio, McBride Automotive;

Fas-Trip Convenience Store, Tim Brinker/Brinker Promotions, Platinum Pool & Spas and Classic Comb & Spa.

Leading up to the Fair, queen candidates learn about their community and participate in many educational activities, including a  Contestant/Sponsor Baseball Game, A Day of Professionalism, A Day in Washington, Fair Run/Walk and Fair Parade.

As in the past, a panel of judges will interview each of the contestants the day of the contest.

The 2017 Fair Queen will receive a $2,500 scholarship. The first runner-up will receive a $1,000 scholarship; second runner-up, $750; and Miss Congeniality, $500.

Seeking Candidates

The queen committee is accepting applications for the competition. Only a few spots remain.

Contestants must be citizens of the United States, female and a resident of Franklin or an adjoining county.

Contestants also must be a resident of Missouri for no fewer than six months as of July 15, 2017.

All candidates must be a high school graduate, not older than 22 years of age on Sept. 1, 2017, and single.
