Registration Open for Fair Run, Walk August 2

Registration is open for the Washington Fair Run/Walk, one of two pre-Fair events planned.

The 18th annual run/walk will be held Saturday, Aug. 2, at 7 a.m. at the North Lakeshore Drive pavilion.

New this year will be a 5K run in addition to the traditional five-mile route, according to Marsha Meyer, event co-chair. Both races will be timed by FleetFeet, she said.

A one-mile fun run for kids also will be held that morning.

Entry forms are available at the Washington Area Chamber of Commerce office and www.washmofair.com. People also can register the day of the race beginning at 6:15 a.m.

To be guaranteed a Dri-fit race shirt, participants must preregister by July 11.

The cost for the five-mile and 5K races is $15 until July 11 and $20 after that date.

The overall male and female finisher in the five-mile and 5K races will receive a Brown’s New Balance gift basket. Medals also will be presented to the top three finishers in each age group.

The kids fun run will begin at 8 a.m. It is open to children 12 and younger. A parent or guardian must check in with the child the day of the race.

Participants must be on foot and may be accompanied by another runner.

The entry fee is $5 if postmarked by July 11 or $10 after that date. People may register the morning of the event.

All preregistered participants will receive a shirt.

First-, second- and third-place trophies will be presented and all finishers were receive medals.

The local school which has the most participants will receive a traveling trophy.

Refreshments for the run and walk will be provided, including pizza, beer and ice cream.

The run/walk and fun run sponsors are as follows:

Eric Park and George Meyer with LPL Financial, Pepsi Cola of New Haven, Real Time Pain Relief, Siedhoff Distributing Company and SNAP Fitness 24/7.

In addition to Meyer, the run/walk committee includes Greg Brinkmann, co-chair, and Jon and Julie Ballmann.
