Dairy Products Sell for $8,400 at Fair Auction

A record amount was paid at the Washington Fair auction for dairy products.

Eight cows were exhibited at Saturday’s auction and the dairy products (buckets with products) were sold for a total of $8,400.

Last year, the dairy auction grossed $6,500 compared to $4,300 in 2010 and $4,200 in 2009.

MFA Co-Op No. 2, Washington, New Haven and Marthasville, bought the grand champion products for $2,000. The grand champion dairy cow was shown by Brady Vedder, New Haven.

The reserve champion dairy cow was exhibited by Ellie Scheer, New Haven. The products sold for $1,200. The buyers were Jim and Sharon Strubberg of Strubberg Associates, Union.

The other dairy show exhibitors and the buyers of their products and prices paid:

Michael Vedder, New Haven, Willard and Mary Lou Luecker, New Haven, $1,100;

Emma Liermann, Marthasville, Backes & Toelke Agriculture, New Haven and Marthasville, $900;

Meagan Ley, Washington, United Mutual Insurance, Darrel and Christine Barrett, Washington, $900;

Alicia Ley, Washington, Riegel Farms, Washington, $800;

Joe Hackmann, Defiance, Howell and Sons Excavating Inc., Defiance, $700; and

Thomas Ley, Washington, Pepsi Cola Bottling, New Haven, $800.
