One of the lead singers of the former U.S. Air Force band Sidewinder, which became a YouTube sensation, will perform at the East Central College Foundation Patrons of Arts event Friday, June 22.

Soul singer Brian Owens, along with the ECC Jazz Band and vocalist Kara Bounds, will be the featured entertainment.

“An Evening of Jazz” at Wine Country Gardens in Defiance will kick off the East Central College’s 2012-13 Patrons of the Arts series.

A welcome and social hour will begin at 6 p.m. followed by a buffet dinner and entertainment from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

“We are thrilled to have the jazz band back again performing at our kick-off event and we’re very excited about Brian Owens joining us as well. It should be a great evening,” said Shannon Grus, ECC Foundation executive director.

The Patrons program benefits the art, theater and music departments at the community college and provides scholarships, Grus said.

The kick-off is an opportunity to enjoy great food and drink with fabulous entertainment in a gorgeous summer setting, she said, adding the Foundation invites everyone to become a Patron of the Arts member.

There are several sponsorship opportunities available for the Patrons program which includes tickets to the kick-off event. An individual patron sponsor can be purchased for $100.

Sponsorship levels are as follows:

Grand Patron, $2,500 — Includes 10 tickets to an evening of jazz, plus 10 season passes to all fine arts events with preferred seating. This level also includes headline sponsorship of ECC’s holiday concert.

About Brian Owens

Raised in St. Louis, Owens said his music reflects a city infused with blues, soul and folk.

His performances with Sidewinder landed him on “The Ellen Degeneres Show,” “Entertainment Tonight” and “Fox and Friends.”

He is currently preparing for the launch of his first major release, Moods and Messages — a self-proclaimed soundtrack to his journey as a soul artist. It has the backing of St. Louis-based Destin2B1 Records and will be distributed through New York-based RED, a division of Sony Music Entertainment.

Owens says Moods and Messages is about balancing out how we feel and what we give out to the world in terms of messages.
