Firmly believing that good music doesn’t always have to come from the Big City, Richard the Lionhearted (Columbia, Missouri, US) is bravely taking to the road without the ease and assistance of a big label, manager, booking agent or a Big City rep in hopes to replace something that’s been lost in today’s too often anemic FM hits.
Their latest release, Outliers, is a six-song EP recorded, mixed, mastered, and distributed by the band themselves. It has received favorable reviews from both critics and listeners; tracks have been hailed as having “melodic, moody guitars, British Invasion-era backbeats, creative time changes and surprisingly soulful crooning,” by the Columbia Daily Tribune, which also named Richard the Lionhearted as one of four local bands “poised to enjoy a big 2012.”
In 2011, the band played several festivals and a handful of shows along the east coast and in the Midwest, and found themselves opening for national acts Other Lives, Oberhofer, Youth Lagoon, O'Death, Tapes ‘n Tapes, Jerusalem and the Starbaskets, and Jessica Lea Mayfield, among others. Now, with the release of Outliers, the band is hitting the road again. Richard the Lionhearted depart Missouri on their summer tour Aug. 4 with stops throughout the southeast, and will be hitting the road again in September, along with a date at home at the Roots, Blues, and Barbecue Festival with Lord Huron and Believers.
