Stages St. Louis to Hold Auditions for 2012 Season

Stages St. Louis, a nonprofit musical theater company, will hold local auditions for adult talent Jan. 25, 26, 27 and 28 and child talent Feb. 17, 18 and 19.

The 2012 Season includes “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” “The Sound of Music,” “My One and Only” and the Theatre for Young Audience production of Disney’s “The Jungle Book.”

Adult Auditions

Stages Artistic Director Michael Hamilton will hold adult auditions, by appointment only Wednesday, Jan. 25, through Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Kirkwood Civic Center, 111 S. Geyer Road, third floor, St. Louis.

To make an appointment, call 314-809-0846 Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., beginning Jan. 16.

Equity appointments begin Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m. Open appointments begin Thursday, Jan. 26, and Friday, Jan. 27, at 10 a.m. each day.

Open dance call is Saturday, Jan. 28 — women at 10 a.m. (sign-ups begin at 9 a.m.); men at 3 p.m. (sign-ups begin at 2 p.m.).

All performers must be at least 18 years or older and bring a photo and resume. Each should be prepared to sing a maximum of 32 bars.

Performers may prepare two contrasting pieces, but may not be asked to sing more than one. Together they may not exceed the maximum 32 bars.

No lead sheets; no transposition. An accompanist will be provided. Songs from the current season are fine.

Open dance call auditionees should be ready to dance first and will sing only if asked. Bring tap, jazz and character shoes.

Children Auditions

Open auditions for children will be held Friday, Feb. 17, through Sunday, Feb. 19, at the Kirkwood Civic Center, 111 S. Geyer Road, third floor, St. Louis.

These will be for the children roles in Disney’s “The Jungle Book” and “The Sound of Music,” including the roles of Mowgli in Disney’s “The Jungle Book” and Fredrick and Kurt in “The Sound of Music.”

Boys should be ages 10 to 14 at the time of the audition and no taller than 5 feet, 4 inches tall. Voices must be unchanged.

Stages will also be seeking girls for the roles of Shanti in Disney’s “The Jungle Book” and Louisa, Brigitta, Marta and Gretl in “The Sound of Music.”

Girls should be ages 6 to 15 at the time of the auditions. Girls may be no taller than 5 feet, 2 inches. Auditions will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis.

On Friday, Feb. 17, sign in will be from 3 to 5 p.m. with auditions from 3:30 to 7 p.m.

On Saturday, Feb. 18, sign in will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with auditions from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Callbacks for children will be Sunday, Feb. 19. If chosen for a callback, the child must be able to attend the Sunday audition.

Children should come prepared with 16 bars of music — no transposition or lead sheets allowed. There is no pre-recorded music or singing a cappella allowed.

The roles of Rolf and Liesl in “The Sound of Music” will be cast at the adult auditions.
