Ted Nugent says Secret Service agents concluded Thursday that he did not, in fact, threaten President Barack Obama.

“I met with two fine, professional Secret Service agents in [Oklahoma] today,” Nugent said in a statement to the press. “Good, solid, professional meeting concluding that I have never made any threats of violence towards anyone.”

The rocker caught the attention of the press — and then the authorities — when he declared at the National Rifle Association convention: “If Barack Obama becomes the president in November again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year.” He also said, “We need to ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November.… Our president, attorney general, our vice president, Hillary Clinton — they’re criminals, they’re criminals.”

Even though he clarified afterward that he didn’t mean to threaten anyone’s life, the Secret Service wanted to chat with the musician anyway.

“The meeting could not have gone better,” Nugent said. “I thanked them for their service, we shook hands and went about our business.” Meanwhile, Secret Service spokesman Brian Leary said the “issue has been resolved,” and that the agency “does not anticipate any further action.”

Nugent has endorsed Mitt Romney for president.
