The city of Washington agreed to purchase three new pickup trucks at its Nov. 21 meeting.
The street department will receive two of the trucks with public works getting the other. All three 2017 Chevrolet 3500 1-ton trucks will be purchased from Modern Auto in Washington.
The two street department trucks are slightly different. One is a single-cab truck that will replace a 1996 Chevrolet Sliverado for $30,595.
The other truck is a double-cab truck that will replace a 1990 GMC Sierra. It will cost $33,640. Both trucks will have lift gates and bed liners.
The street department had budgeted $40,000 for each truck.
The public works department truck is slightly over its budget. Public works had originally planned on getting a three-quarter-ton truck and had budgeted $31,000.
Water/Wastewater Superintendent Kevin Quaethem said after finding out about the street department’s purchase, he decided to upgrade to a 1-ton truck.
The board of public works supported amending the budget and spending $31,295 — an additional $295 — for the truck. It will replace an older public works truck.
The council unanimously agreed to the purchase of all three trucks.
