The city’s personnel, finance and public works committee gave a thumbs-up to the purchase of a new asphalt roller and trailer for the street department.

Funds will come from money saved in the purchase of a dump truck.

The truck was expected to cost $266,500, but after a pricing decrease, it was was $144,172.20.

The cost of the asphalt roller and trailer are $58,450.28. Both items were requested in the 2017-18 budget, but were cut, Finance Officer Heather Keith noted.

After the purchase, the account will still have a balance of $62,877.52.

The request will go before the board of aldermen next week for final approval.
