We've all got them-favorite books-tales that stay in our heads and our hearts. I've got a shelf full. Tops on my list is "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan," Lisa See's novel about two Chinese sisters first published in 2005.

Several books and years later, See remains a popular and prolific author, and her affecting Chinese characters Pearl, May and Joy almost seem like family to many of us.

Area readers will have the opportunity to meet See when she comes to St. Louis on Monday, March 12th, at 7 p.m. for Maryville Talks Books, a free literary event held at Maryville University's Auditorium. No reservations required-it's first come, first serve for the best seats.

See will be promoting "Dreams of Joy" which pubbed in paperback on Feb. 7th. The novel takes up where her earlier book "Shanghai Girls," left off, so readers can expect to be united with Pearl and May-and Pearl's headstrong daughter Joy, now grown and determined to return to Communist China to find her father.

It's a joyous reunion and makes for a really good read.
