The Washington City Council Monday night approved an ordinance amending the speed limit on a stretch of Highway 47.
The speed limit will change from 40 miles per hour to 30 miles per hour on the highway from Eighth Street to the city limits on the Missouri River Bridge.
The speed limit change is to prepare people for a lower speed limit when the new Highway 47 bridge is being constructed.
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has the authority to set speed limits on state highways.
The city’s ordinance will allow violations to be handled through municipal court.
