Alderman Jerry Eversmeyer, Ward 3, will resign his seat sometime in May.

He and his wife plan to move to Alaska for two years to be with family members.

Mayor Herb Adams will appoint a Ward 3 resident to complete the remainder of Eversmeyer’s term, which will expire in April 2014. Speaking at the March 19 board meeting, Adams said he has already begun a search for someone to complete the term and one individual has shown an interest.

“It will be a slow process,” the mayor said. “Anyone who is interested in serving out the term should get in contact with Kim Barfield, city clerk at city hall, and leave his or her name, address and phone number and I’ll get back to them.”

Adams said rumors have circulated that he has already made a selection, but that is not true.

“I have not made a selection,” he said. “I will continue to interview. I have 26 questions that I asked the one I’ve interviewed. I take this very seriously.”
