Missourian Announces Price Increases for 2013

The Missourian is increasing its single copy price from 75 cents to $1 beginning in 2013.

The newspaper is also raising the subscription price for home and mail delivery of The Missourian.

The cost of an annual subscription in Franklin County will increase from $39.60 a year to $45 except for those who take advantage of EZ Pay — an automatic electronic withdraw payment option.

Subscribers who convert to EZ Pay can avoid the price increase altogether.

The Missourian has not raised its single copy price since 2001. Annual subscription rates have remained the same for the past three years.

The price increases are being driven by higher production costs and a postal rate increase which is set to go into effect in January of 2013.

“No one likes price increases, we understand that,” Missourian Publisher William L. Miller Sr. said, “but we believe our newspaper is still a value even at the increased prices. We don’t make these decisions lightly. Like many businesses, we have had to absorb a number of production cost increases over the past few years and are facing another postal rate increase in 2013. That is what is driving this price increase.”

Tom Kesterson, Missourian circulation director, said subscribers can take advantage of EZ Pay by filling out a form that will be attached to a subscriber’s statement.

“It’s easy to sign up for to EZ Pay,” Kesterson explained. “All a subscriber needs to do is complete the form and send it to us and we will take care of the rest. You can avoid the price increase and go green at the same time.”
