Some Union firefighters are hoping to take a cut out of childhood cancers.
Members of the Union Fire Protection District and others, are taking part in a St. Baldrick’s Foundation head shaving event next month.
It will be at the Union Firehouse No. 3 Saturday, Aug. 17, beginning at noon.
The firehouse is located at 1690 Denmark Road, Union.
Firefighters, and others, are accepting donations in exchange for locks of their own hair.
Participants are shaving their heads in solidarity with kids with cancer and to raise money to “conquer childhood cancers.”
To donate, people may visit the website: www.stbaldricks.org/events/unionfire/.
The event is inspired, in part, by Jared Kessels’ in his fight against non-Hodgkin Burkitt’s Lymphoma.
Kessels has been cancer free for six years.
Worldwide a child is diagnosed with cancer every three minutes, and one in five children diagnosed in the United States will not survive. With only 4 percent of all federal cancer research funding dedicated to pediatric cancer research, St. Baldrick’s Foundation volunteers, supporters and donors are needed to continue the battle against this devastating disease.
For more information, people may call Hidritch or Andy Thwing at the Union Firehouse No. 1 at 636-583-2515.
