The Franklin County Commission recently approved spending more than $25,000 to update computer software.

The new software will be used in the Collector of Revenue Office and will more efficiently handle tax records, said Larry Sikes, Franklin County’s information technology director.

Other county departments could also use the new software, he said, adding that it is a “significant upgrade.”

Sikes said he and Collector of Revenue Linda Emmons have been working on getting the software upgrade for a few years.

The contract also includes training on how to use the software, Sikes said.

The software package is being provided by a company called ASNA, of San Antonio, Texas.

Sikes said the public will benefit from the more efficient software, noting that it could increase the productivity of county operations.

Emmons said the software will help her office gather information about property.

For instance, if she looks up a parcel number it will be easier for her to see if it has issues with bankruptcy or a tax sale. This will allow her office to have information readily available for citizens, she said.
