Members of the Union Fire Protection District are asking neighbors to help neighbors stay safe.
The district, along with sponsors, is hosting a smoke detector drive in which residents can purchase a detector and donate to a family in need.
The drive is through the month of August and people may drop off detectors at the Union Firehouse No. 1, or Strubberg Plumbing-Electric, in Union.
Firefighter Andy Thwing, who is organizing the event, said the goal is to make sure every home in the district has at least one early warning device.
“We want to instill in the community the idea to help each other, and remind people to make sure they have smoke detectors,” he said.
Strubberg is a dropoff point, and a major donor. Other major donors are Hall Bros., Wal-Mart and Dickey Bub.
The district always accepts detectors throughout the year.
Personnel also can install detectors for those who are unable to install them themselves.
For more information, people may call Firehouse No. 1 at 636-583-2515.
It is located at 1401 W. Springfield Ave., Union.
