To The Editor:

The purpose of this letter is to offer a suggestion for the new bridge design.

What about the possibility of placing a wrought iron railing/fence on top of the concrete side barriers? The design could mimic the silhouette of the current bridge and add an ornamental feature. The black color of the iron also tends to fall in line with the current architecture and many black fences, railing, light poles, and signs that adorn the downtown area.

A conduit, or chase, could be added in the barriers themselves or fastened to the top so that electric service could be supplied the length of the bridge, thus providing a way to add future lighting on the wrought iron railing. This would provide a nighttime perception, when lit, of the current bridge.

Just a thought . . .
